Mulugu District: A New Addition to Telangana's Administrative Map
Mulugu District, established on February 17, 2019, emerged from the bifurcation of Jayashankar Bhupalpally district, which was previously part of Warangal. This district now comprises one revenue division, 10 mandals, and 174 village panchayats. As of the 2011 census, it has a population of 257,744, making it the least populated district in Telangana.
The district is notable for its tribal population, with the Etururnagaram ITDA office serving as a key institution for tribal welfare. Mulugu also hosts several natural attractions, including the Ramappa Temple, Ramappa Lake, and Laknavaram Lake, with the latter being surrounded by deciduous forests. The district is home to the world-renowned Medaram Jathara, a tribal festival that draws large crowds.
Additionally, the Bogatha Waterfall, often called the Niagara of Telangana, is accessible via the newly constructed Eturnagaram bridge, reducing travel distance from Hyderabad. Tadvai Forest Huts offer affordable eco-tourism options, with basic amenities at Rs. 1000 per night.
