Reports indicate that Apple's foldable phone has moved beyond the planning stage and is progressing towards reality. The company has also contacted suppliers in Asia for components used in foldable phones and created an internal code name, V68, for the product. Whenever Apple launches its foldable phone, it will directly compete with Samsung's foldable and flip phones. Samsung was the first to introduce a phone in the foldable segment in 2019, aiming to provide users with a new experience. Since then, the trend of foldable and flip phones has rapidly grown.
Rapid Growth in the Foldable Phone Trend
In early July, the Galaxy Unpacked event introduced the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold and Z Flip with AI features for 2024. Samsung has made these phones lighter and thinner. Simultaneously, Chinese mobile companies Honor and Huawei have also released foldable phones in this segment. The global foldable smartphone market grew by 49% in the first quarter, achieving its highest growth rate in six quarters. For the first time, Huawei surpassed Samsung to take the top spot, according to Counterpoint Research reports. When Reuters asked Apple about this, there was no official announcement regarding their foldable phone.
