Bollywood queen and BJP MP from Mandi, Kangana Ranaut's film āEmergency,ā which is based on the life of the late Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, has been postponed once again. Kangana plays the role of Indira Gandhi in this movie. Initially set to release on November 24 last year, the film faced delays due to unforeseen reasons. Despite several announcements, the movie has not yet made it to theaters. Kangana had recently announced that the film would finally release today, on the 6th of this month, but it has been postponed once again.
Kangana took to X (formerly Twitter) on Friday morning to announce the postponement of 'Emergency.' She mentioned that the film has yet to receive a certificate from the Censor Board and that they are waiting for it. A new release date will be announced soon.
The movie details the political events during the Emergency period declared by former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in 1972. However, the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee has raised concerns, accusing the film of depicting events that might hurt the sentiments of Sikhs. The film has faced opposition from some quarters for allegedly presenting a one-sided story, especially about events like the attack on Akal Takht Sahib and Operation Blue Star.
The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) also objected to some scenes in the film, stating that movies should not hurt religious sentiments. CBFC has indicated that there is sensitive content in the movie, which is why it has not yet issued a certificate, causing yet another delay in the release.
In 'Emergency,' Anupam Kher plays the role of Jayaprakash Narayan, while Shreyas Talpade portrays former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. The movie, produced under the banners of Zee Studios and Manikarnika Films, also features Mahima Chaudhry, Milind Soman, and others in key roles.
