Upon reaching Jordan on tourist visas, Thomas and Edison, along with two others, attempted to cross into Israel illegally. Guided by an agent, their plan was thwarted when Jordanian security forces intercepted them at the border. Ignoring warnings to halt, the group faced gunfire, resulting in Thomas being shot in the head and dying instantly. Edison sustained injuries but survived.

Back in Kerala, Thomas's family was unaware of his true intentions, believing he was on a pilgrimage to Velankanni in Tamil Nadu. The shocking news of his death reached them through the Indian Embassy in Jordan, leaving them devastated and seeking answers.
