Missing Plane In Malawi Vice President and Others on Board

A plane from the Malawi Defense Force, carrying Vice President Saulos Klaus Chilima and nine others, went missing in Eastern Africa's Malawi. The plane, which was supposed to land at Muju International Airport at 10:02 AM local time on Monday, did not reach its destination as scheduled. The President's office confirmed the disappearance after losing radar contact and unsuccessful attempts by aviation officials to re-establish communication.

The plane departed from the capital city, Lilongwe. The search and rescue operations have been launched by the Malawian government. On board the missing plane were Chilima's wife Mary and several officials from the United Transformation Movement (UTM) party.

This incident follows the recent death of former cabinet minister Ralph Kasambara. The vice president and other officials were en route to attend his funeral on behalf of the government when the plane disappeared. President Lazarus Chakwera has canceled his official trips to personally oversee the search operation. The cause of the plane's disappearance remains unknown.
