Modi Faces Trouble Over Ministerial Allocation

The Modi government is facing internal turmoil as ministerial allocations spark discontent. With only hours into the new cabinet, dissent is spreading like wildfire. How will Modi handle this? The NDA won 292 seats in the recent general elections, needing 272 for a majority. While the BJP secured 240 seats alone, the NDA formed the government with ally support. Narendra Modi was sworn in as Prime Minister for the third time, but the BJP's slight majority makes TDP's 16 and JD(U)'s 12 seats crucial.

TDP's Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu was appointed Minister of Civil Aviation, and Pemmasani Chandrasekhar was made Minister of State for Rural Development. These allocations, especially Rammohan Naidu's, have drawn criticism. The Civil Aviation Ministry has little work since the government no longer owns any planes after selling Air India to Tata for ₹18,000 crores. The ministry now mainly oversees private airline operations, with most duties handled by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).

Critics argue that allocating such a ministry to the TDP is symbolic. CPI State Secretary K. Ramakrishna slammed the Centre for doing injustice to Andhra Pradesh by offering only one full-fledged ministerial post and two decorative ministerial posts. He lamented that the Centre's allocation shows a lack of regard for AP.
