A dangerous Nipah virus outbreak in India has caused significant concern. In Kerala, a boy succumbed to the virus just an hour after testing positive, sparking fear among the public. The central government has urged states to remain vigilant and has issued guidelines for quarantine measures in affected areas.
In response to the Nipah virus scare in Kerala, the Tamil Nadu government has heightened its alertness. Health department staff in Tamil Nadu are conducting rigorous checks in border areas adjacent to Kerala. Precautionary measures have been implemented in the Nilgiri district, which borders Kerala. Health officials in regions like Nelliyalam, Thaloor, and Ambalamoola have been put on alert. The deputy director of the district health department has instructed that anyone showing symptoms such as fever, red rashes, brain fever, or seizures should be quarantined and provided with appropriate treatment immediately, along with notifying the district authorities.
Additionally, health officials are inspecting vehicles traveling from Kerala to Coimbatore at the Walayar border. Special medical camps have been set up to screen travelers. The Nipah virus was first identified in 1999 and has no vaccine. It is transmitted from animals to humans. In 2018, an outbreak in Kerala resulted in 27 deaths. With the recent resurgence, the central government has dispatched a special medical team to Kerala.
