Getting paid by UPI? You do not need to enter your PIN to receive money
2026-10-28T12:21:24.623013+00:00
If someone says you must scan a QR code and enter your UPI PIN to receive a payment or reward, stop. NPCI’s fraud-awareness guidance explains that scanning a QR code and entering a PIN is for making a payment, not receiving one.
Before approving anything, read the payment screen and check what it asks you to do. A promise in a chat is not confirmation that money has arrived. Do not share your UPI PIN with someone helping you buy, sell or claim a prize.
Use the official support route in your bank or payment app if you are unsure about a request. Keep the NPCI guidance linked below handy when selling something online or splitting a bill. This is a safety explainer, not a new payment feature or a guarantee against fraud.
